New Grant Program Helps
Chapter Take Kids to Zoo
With funds provided through the
Fraternity's new Youth Service Grant
Program, Kappa Chi Chapter at
Creighton University in Omaha,
Nebraska, helped children from the
Winnebago Indian Reservation enjoy
a day at the zoo.
Another grant will be used to
assist Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts
from low-income areas in Illinois,
while in Georgia the program will
support activities to educate high
school students about the risks of
drinking and driving.
In all, eight chapters were the
first recipients of youth service grants
made possible by a gift to the
National Fraternity.
The program provides funds for
socially positive service projects
benefiting precollege youth. Be on
the lookout this fall for information
about how to apply for a 1997 Alpha
Phi Omega Youth Service Grant.
Congratulations to all of the
1996 recipients, including:
- Alpha Alpha, University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign (for uniforms
and manuals to be earned by Scouts
from low-income areas)
- Alpha Pho, University of Texas at
Austin (for a summer day camp for
inner-city youth)
- Beta Beta, Michigan State University
(for a tutoring program and
parent/youth interactive workshop)
- Gamma Theta, University of Colorado
at Boulder (for a suicide prevention
workshop for teens)
- Iota Mu, University of South Carolina
(for supplies for a YMCA incentive
program)
- Kappa Chi, Creighton University (for a

reservation)

University (for a presentation to high
school students on the risks of drinking
and driving)

University (for a mentoring and service-
